Visual Novel Translation Status (19/11/23)

Welcome to the Fuwanovel VNTS, where we shamelessly copy the work of one illustrious 4chan /jp/ member in collating translation progress and add minor dabs of value through corrections and additions. Entries with updates this week in bold.

The header this week features Teito Moyu, Meikei no Lupercalia, and Hira Hira Hihiru.

Hi guys, usually we fill the VNTS with a lot of unrelated stuff to recap the week, but coming this week, our busy bee Fujoneko actually created a dedicated format for this. In Fuwa Recap you will now be able to get a recap of the last week, with added perspective of the respective writer, or in this case on of the editorial chiefs of the site. This means that we can focus more on what counts for VNTS, Zaka’s cooking skills – and VNs!

Without further ado, let’s go:

「Tooth-related misfortunes can be weird sometimes. Late Friday evening, objectively the worst time to have a dental mishap as everything will be either closed or 50% more expensive, my tooth was giving me some minor ailing, so I ventured into offending area with my floss and managed to rip off an old fix on it. Now I think this was bound to happen sooner or later, so it’s really just the timing that’s a bitch. The funny thing is, while the time until I at last could sleep proved agonizing, after sleeping, only a murmur of the previous agony remained — almost entirely subduable by a modest dose of paracetamol. I’d been so sure I’d have to get to the extra-expensive place that’s open on weekends, but no. I’m still pre-appointment to fix it this Monday, so let’s see what I can do in the forty-or-so minutes until then.

If you’re into the Kiminozo side content, which at this point seems destined to all be out by the time the probably-censored-maybe-patchable remake comes out, you’ve got some good news this week. Both Kimi ga Nozomu Eien Another Episode – Kanashimi wa Kaze no You ni, a spinoff that I have no idea what it’s about or like, and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien ~Special Fan Disc~, a spinoff that goes what-if the thing that defines kiminozo’s early dramatic plot development doesn’t happen, have releases this week. Kanashimi wa Kaze no You ni‘s patch is full; the Special Fan Disc is partially patched.

You know, Kiminozo was the first anime I actually watched the whole damn thing of, and I went in with no clue as to the dramatic event that defines the series beyond it. Fun anime, though it was also amusing in that you could easily see the story wrap up like 10 episodes before it does if someone even minorly tried to communicate or get their shit together. Considering that I had my stationary PC broken for like 7 years despite likely being able to fix it and benefit from the fix in one day, this is more an observation than a criticism. I ended up buying a prebuilt one because getting components separately was actually less efficient at the time. Sort of.

I’m back from the dentist and the man put a temporary fix on me, which if I’m lucky will take more than a week to fall off, as my appointment for a more permanent solution seems to be in March next year. Damn. The local anaesthetic afterward always is a unique feeling, if not the most pleasant one.

Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa o Hirogete: GIFT EDITION Kotori Version is this unvoiced, hard to get exclusive for people who bought 10th anniversary merch. There’s actually GIFT edition for Ageha as well, but it seems not a single soul actually made it available to the wider otakusphere through the customary file transfer technniques — you couldn’t get the Kotori version either until a western guy managed to get his hands on the Kotori one and share it around. Maybe for their 15th anniversary they’ll make it available in some kind of download version. Anyway, I have to admit the translation seems a bit sus and I wonder if it’s not MTL. But I haven’t actually checked it, so who knows.

Meikei no Lupercalia, or Lupercalia of the Silent Accord as the translator has localized the title, is a title that I’ve heard some praise for from JOPs… at least the ones that actually read it. It is thus a bit sad for it to have gotten a very old-school fan translation style fan translation, but that seems to be what has happened. For all the translator speaks about going back over their work several times, maybe they shouldve done a few English book reps in between all the Japanese ones. Or consulted an editor, since they were the only one working on the project. I mean, I get not wanting to work with one: it’s always exhausting for me. But if the alternative is this… sigh. It is what it is. I suppose it did come out before some dude decided to just full MTL it.

Rinkaiten no Azrael is another →Quantize_ title by Shinzou Translations. There looks to be a partially voiced version that includes more stuff, but that’s not what has been translated here; that version also is paid unlike this one. As usual with Shinzou, expect it to be a bit ESL, and maybe pick the Spanish translation if you can.

Everlasting flowers more info?

Tengoku Struggle -Strayside- is slated for release April 2024 by Aksys. I’m not putting up the Aksys cycle meme pic again, it’s too soon, so let’s look at the vndb reviews. It looks like while this is the team that produced relatively dark Nil Admirari and Olympia Soiree, they went for a more slice-of-life approach this time. The two vndb reviews are mixed, with one saying it’s still okay if not quite as good as the previous works, and one sounding like an absolute plotchad and complaining about an excess of substanceless filler ruining the whole thing.

Teito Moyu is out. I feel like I wrote about this last week though… it mostly seems a little overpriced for the length, I guess.

Criminal Border 1st Offence is the first part of a new episodic venture by the writer of Nanairo Reincarnation, the 9nine series, and Kimagure Temptation among others: Kazuki Fumi. The setting seems like it could get pretty dark, but who knows where it’ll lead. The second part is actually already out in Japan, with a third on the way.

Last but not least, Hira Hira Hihiru is out. People in the discord are saying it’s about how the people around someone terminally ill deal with their relative dying or something? Setoguchi moment ngl. I feel like I’ve mentioned Setoguchi Ren’ya quite a few times recently, but he’s the writer of Kira Kira, Swan Song, and Musicus and has nicely flowing but none-too-fancy prose, good imagery, and some steam-of-consciousness elements in some parts. Every translation of him so far as been pretty oof, but there’s some hope for this one based on the demo. it’s about damn time.

I leave whatever titles I skipped (moege and nukige smh) to Hata below. If he can actually sit in his chair after his seven-hout jaunt around town yesterday, which he might tell you about — or not!」

Hata’s Harangue(仮)

「What the hell is a Harangue, Zaka? I don’t even want to google that. However, the Japanese character 仮 stands for “undetermined title” or as STEINS;GATE would express it “name-subject-to-change” so you learned something new today.

Anyways, all the Fuwanovel Recap stuff has been rearranged to be talked about in a respective article now, so there’s only one thing unrelated to VNTS that I’m willing to add today:

In my actual day-life I’m running 33% of a media translation company called Mimir Translations and we have finally released a major title we’d been working on throughout the month of November. It’s Critical Bliss’s Flipwitch: Forbidden SexHex, a metroidvania title that now contains 7 translations as opposed to only English it was planned to launch with. German is one of them and despite Germans not being so favourably treated by Steam, our country’s players will be able to enjoy a fully German translation when it launches on Itch.io and GOG by next week. Anyways, let’s get into VNs. There’s a truckload to talk about.

Akatsuki no Goei! ~Tsumibukaki Shuumatsuron~ has passed the 40000-line mark. Not much has deviated from the usual progression, just that Bee recently asked me if he can make a new account on the forums because he wants to browse the Fan translation section again.

Next, there’s two fan translations for KimiNozo, a game that’s currently in discussion a lot due to the recent crowdfunding campaign that accompagnies it. The group worked on KimiNozo Another Episode: Sorrow Flows Like the Wind and KimiNozo Special Fandisk. We actually had to adjust the article a bit because it seems that the former KimiNozo fan TL guy Evan was not involved in this one actively.

Next, there’s a translation for the KonoSora GIFT EDITION Kotori Version that got released. A friend and staff of ours, RJ is currently working with former AlkaTranslations leader Rinny on the H-Scene translations for KonoSora: Snow Presents, so this feels related. The translator guy here did the tech stuff and the translations and you can grab it from Github.

Meikei no Lupercalia came out of absolutely nowhere and it surprised everyone. The name of the translation blog Currykaesu did strike me before, but just for its ridiculousness and less for its contents. Well, they did pull through and made a fully released fan translation of Lupercalia. Is it good? No clue, there’s some screenshots full of ESLisms and Japanesisms out there which bar me from reading it, but I think some people will be fine with it. The game looks great, though.

Another Orcsoft game got a fan translation. It’s Oku-sama wa Moto Yariman -Besluted-, something that our Cava would love to play. Orcsoft titles always have small fonts, so I’m not going to read them, but there’s audience for these games for sure.

Rinkaiten no Azrael was a game that I’ve been made aware of 8h before of the actual release. This is the first bigger release from Shinzou Translations with a length of 6 to 7 hours. The actual big project they want to do is Seisaku Kanojo which is like 20 hours or longer, looking forward to whatever else Alexeir has to offer. Maybe we can offer him QC solutions since the games happen to have quite a few typos they shouldn’t have.

Tsui no Sora Remake broke through 75% and 63% edited. It’s quite interesting to see this team of two banter on Twitter. In a recent post, they made some funny jokes about the iconic “guys runs through a runnel and screams SEEEEEEX” situation. I wonder how they worked this into the game? Maybe a H-Scene?

Tsuma Netori from Rattanman will reach the 100% translation soon, maybe next week? Looking forward to this. Maybe there’s a partial patch with just the translation coming?

Yosuga no Sora guys asked me if I could find them some lads for the last remaining pieces of the puzzle to get this game done. A TLC for Akira and Nao routes, since the beloved Sora Route has finally been finished editing. After a simple tweet on Fuwanovel’s platform, they found suitable staff quickly and now it’s going towards completion. But with this cursed project you never know!

On the official side, there’s much less this week. Sekai only has one new release with Animal Trail Girlish Square LOVE+PLUS, a super short fandisc of Animal Trail*Girlish Square by Whirlpool. I got surprised when I saw it was just $4.99, but the length confirmed that price to be fair.

Next, there’s the confirmation for a release date of Everlasting Flowers, which will be the new game from Sprite and Frontwing. Just recently, we got Usonatsu ~The Summer Romance Bloomed with a Lie~ which is a big yuri title and Everlasting Flowers will hopefully make the same waves around the community.

Aksys Games announced Tengoku Struggle -Strayside- for April 2024. They didn’t do their All Aksys Event for 2024 yet, so this is actually really weird. What should we be excited for for next year, they’re not giving any information :/

Not only the two KimiNozo fandiscs came out, but also the long-awaited Teito Moyu: The Imperial Capital Burns from Age/aNCHOR is now available on Steam. We actually got a key for the game, so there might be a review coming!

Shiravune had a really busy week last time, so it’s a bit more relaxing now. They just released Criminal Border 1st Offence, the first episode of Purplesoft’s Criminal Border series. They also announced some new titles during their #TeaserTuesday posts and those turned out to be Kagura Genesis: Kuon’s Story and Holy Maid Academy (Sei Dorei Academy).

Aniplex released Hira Hira Hihiru and it’s one of the prettiest releases in a while! The localization seems great and it’s a high-class release that’s actually available for people in Europe from the start. Aniplex.exe is shaping up to become a great publisher it seems!

https://forums.fuwanovel.net/topic/16982-aiyoku-no-eustia-translation-project-partial-patch-is-out/

Lastly, there was a leak for Aiyoku no Eustia. I’m no going to talk further about it though to keep my „integrity“. You’ll find it when you want to.」

I don’t know though that Rinkaiten no Azrael is Shinzou Translation biggest release yet, although if their previous short VNs are the stepping stone for them to finally translate Sousaku no Kanjojo then I’m all for it (Although apparently it’s only for Spanish version). I know Hirahira Hihiru, although in the end I’m favoring Lupercalia despite that the translation could be a bit rough for some person.

Anyway, here’s my VNTS Review for this week and I hope you’ll enjoy it.
