Sekai Project has announced that they are releasing horror visual novel HAPPY SAIN† SHEOL.
The game is releasing on Steam later this year and currently has a demo available.
It will be available in English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese, and won’t feature voice acting.
HAPPY SAIN† SHEOL is a religious horror game created by Hankei 122px no Meido, Seiniku Jousai. The developer currently has two JP releases, one of them being the side story to this main title.
Two demos were made during 2022, and in August of that year, the full version released. In May 2023, there was an update, which removed its 18+ content.
Additionally, HAPPY SAIN† SHEOL has a prequel in development.
Story
This is a story about a group of very ordinary girls.
Two thousand years ago, the Pestis Disaster swept through the land, corrupting all living things and making it to difficult to live on the land. For those that still wish to live on this dead land, a temple was established. It was known as Saint Sheol of the Underworld.
With the help of a distant relative, I moved to the capital that I had longed to live in, and began work as a trainee priest at Saint Sheol.
Every day I endured pain and suffering in this unfamiliar land. On one particular day, when I was in truly dire straits, an angel appeared before me in my dreams. “Don’t worry,” she gently whispered. It was truly a vision that seemed impossible. I knew the face of that angel.
Before the looming disaster stood 6 girls. Within the deepest corner of the temple was fear, miracles, love… and lust.
Having touched the darkest darkness the world has seen, one must now face the dazzling light.
Thus I pose this question.
Whose wings did I see that day?
Meet the Cast
Protagonist
Belial
Belial is a young man from a closed-off village who wants to start his adult life in the Capital. With help from a distant relative, he joins the temple Cleanup Department as a trainee. Additionally, he is unknowingly arranged to marry Arne Alternata, the future head of a powerful mage family.
Belial begins to have disturbing nightmares of blood and gore every night, but each time an angel saves him–an angel with a face he recognizes.
Maya Elbeth
Maya is a rookie trainee and happens to meet Belial on the train to Saint Sheol. The harshness of her new job clashes with her timid, insecure personality.
She often tends to the plants in the flower garden.
Haku Eckaran
Haku is the Cleanup Department’s mystical bishop. She goes at her own pace and has a relaxed, airheaded personality.
Her personality drastically shifts at night, when she becomes bright and ill mannered.
Clione Myosotis
Clione is a daughter of the wealthy Myosotis family, which provides frequent donations to the temple.
She is a talkative young girl who has an insatiable–and sometimes overbearing–sense of curiosity.
Lavieen Rose
Lavieen is a priest of many skills and serves as the auxiliary bishop of the Academics Department. She suffers from random bouts of sleepwalking due to the effects of Pestis.
She is usually cheerful, talkative, and wise, and helps repair any broken machinery she finds in the temple. During her sleepwalking episodes, she goes by the name “Rose,” acts in a robotic, emotionless manner, and refuses to leave her room in the library.
Arne Alternata
Arne is the auxiliary bishop of the Magic Department and next in line to lead the House of Alternata. She is formal, serious, and family oriented, and is often seen at her department’s training grounds.
In order to help her family prosper, she is placed into an arranged marriage with Belial.
Grette
As the auxiliary bishop of the Health Department, Grette provides therapy and counseling to temple priests in need. She exudes a warm, kind aura.
She loves to bake sweets and give them to priests passing by the infirmary.
