A new global visual novel brand: Kawaiinium

The Japanese company Frontier Works is entering the emerging visual novel markets outside Japan by launching its new global brand: Kawaiinium.

In a time when the Japanese concepts of kawaii and moe are gaining global recognition, Kawaiinium aims to share Japan’s beloved bishōjo (beautiful girl) content with audiences worldwide. From nostalgic classics to fresh new titles, the brand will deliver a wide range of bishōjo-themed content. With localization into English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese, Kawaiinium strives to break language barriers and bring the magic of the bishōjo genre to fans around the globe.

— from Frontier Works’ official statement

As a global brand, Kawaiinium’s activities will not be limited to Japan itself. Instead the brand also targets the markets outside Japan and here especially the Chinese and English-speaking markets, which have grown enormously over the last decade. While announcing the new Kawaiinium brand, Frontier Works also already announced its first release: an HD remake of Tayutama: Kiss on my Deity developed by Lump of Sugar (known for titles like Hello, good-bye), which was initially released in Japan back in 2008.

Kawaiinium announced already on their X account that the English version of the Tayutama HD remake will be published on 27th March 2025, so English-speaking Moege fans in general, and Lump of Sugar fans in particular, can expect a release already in a little more than a month. Currently there is still no physical release announced and Kawaiinium also stated the version which will be now released will be an all-ages version as the new brand plans to reach a broader audience.

Apart from the PC version, which will be available on Steam, Kawaiinium also plans a Nintendo Switch co-release, which will be available on the Nintendo Store. The Steam page is already available for wish listing, while the Nintendo Store page will be released in the coming days. Unfortunately, there are no known prices for the game in the relevant game stores yet, but Kawaiinium mentioned a release price of 5000 Yen (a little more than 30 USD, according to the current exchange rate). However, as always, this can vary depending on the region you live in.

About Tayutama

The story follows protagonist Yuri Mito, the only son of the local priest at Yachimata Shrine.

After a series of events during spring break, Yuri meets Kikuramikami no Hime, the guardian of a mystical relic in the woods near his school. She explains the strained history between humans and the Tayutai, a mythical race sealed within the relic due to their potential threat to humanity. To bridge the gap between their worlds, the goddess reincarnates as a young girl named Mashiro and entrusts herself to Yuri.

However, the relic is accidentally destroyed, releasing the Tayutai. Particularly dangerous are the “Three Mightiest,” powerful entities hostile toward humans. Armed with spirit powers unique to his lineage, Yuri teams up with Mashiro and three other heroines to explore whether humans and Tayutai can coexist peacefully. This romantic fantasy adventure tells a heartfelt tale of growth, connection, and the mysteries of love.
