On June 7, 2023, The Crimson Flower That Divides: Lunar Coupling (also known as Koezaru wa Akai Hana ~Tai no Tsuki~) was released for PC!
A game that originally came out on PC in Japan back in 2012, it’s seen a couple ports in Japanese to the popular PSP and Vita system. But this time, we finally were lucky enough to see an English translation! A tamer version of the game was brought to Western audiences digitally and physically in February 2023 to the Nintendo Switch. The physical copy was released in Japan only; however, it does have English on the cartridge. For PC, however, it wasn’t released on Steam until early June and does also include English, expanding this beautiful experience out to a whole new audience.
The game comes to us developed by Operetta Due and published by Dramatic Create who are also the publishers behind several other famous VNs such as Steam Prison, Hashihime of the Old Book Town, and EPHEMERAL -FANTASY ON DARK-.
It does contain both flashing graphics as well as multiple mature content ratings including drug use, sexual abuse, and self-harm.
Story
The story surrounds Naala, a girl orphaned in the country of Rus after her mother was kidnapped by a neighboring country. She is taken in by her good friend and future king of Rus, Auri.
He cares for her as she grows and this leads to her eventually becoming his future bride while outside of the walls that she feels safe in, war rages on between Rus and the same neighboring country that kidnapped her mother.
All this compounds with the fatal and incurable disease sweeping the women of the continent known only as “The Rot.” Naala is stuck in the middle of so much and she is not only overwhelmed, but also must face a future that hangs in the balance and is entirely undecided.
