Last month, fans reported finding localized screenshots for the first two of MAGES.’ Quintessential Quintuplets visual novels on their Japanese PlayStation Store pages.
After a month of silence, Spike Chunsoft has formally announced a digital-only localized release of The Quintessential Quintuplets Double Pack. It includes The Quintessential Quintuplets: Memories of a Quintessential Summer and The Quintessential Quintuplets: Five Memories Spent with You.
The games have released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. Each game is available individually for $34.99 and the Double Pack is available for $59.99. The games will be on a 10% launch discount this week, starting today!
The Quintessential Quintuplets:
Memories of a Quintessential Summer
It’s summer vacation! Futaro and his younger sister Raiha have been invited to the quintuplets’ private island.
But a sudden storm turns what was supposed to be a three-day, two-night vacation into two weeks of survival!
What fate awaits in this edge-of-your-seat island adventure with the quintuplets?
The Quintessential Quintuplets:
Five Memories Spent with You
Play as Futaro Uesugi and experience a graduation trip six months after his confession at the school festival.
The prologue of the game is set on the night after the school festival. The player is left to decide to whom they will confess their feelings.
From that point onward, the game’s original story will unfold!
For an IP as big as The Quintessential Quintuplets, it is a little surprising to see Spike Chunsoft opt to shadow drop the games in a digital-only release. By release time, they will have had only a week’s worth of prior marketing. Nevertheless, they also did this with their release of Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace back in 2019. This is not the first time that Spike Chunsoft has shadow dropped big titles.
Additionally, some may also find it surprising that Spike Chunsoft is handling the English release given their licensing history. After all, until now, Spike Chunsoft has almost never published non-Science Adventure series titles from MAGES in English. Their one exception to date was YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World. English releases of MAGES’ other titles have been handled by other publishers like PQube.
Spike Chunsoft has not announced if they will be publishing MAGES.’ other Quintessential Quintuplets games. Time will tell, but with Spike Chunsoft moving into publishing MAGES’ other works, perhaps they might handle the localization of Iwakura Aria.
The Quintessential Quintuplets is originally a manga series by Haruba Negi, published from 2017 to 2020. It has received numerous anime and video game adaptations. Most recently, for the anime’s 5th anniversary, they announced a new anime project in the works. It will take place after the events of the manga’s conclusion with an original story by Haruba Negi.
One may expect MAGES. to continue their past trend of making more games for the series to coincide with the release of major anime projects. They had released their first game (Memories of a Quintessential Summer) at the end of the anime’s second season, the second game (Five Memories Spent with You) alongside The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie, and the third game (Five Promises Made with Her) alongside the airing of The Quintessential Quintuplets~ 2-episode TV special. MAGES has also made the puzzle game, Gotopazu Story, and they recently announced a sequel titled Gotopazu Story 2nd, to release this year.
