On June 7th, publishers Denpasoft & Sekai Project announced a new short ninja kemonomimi by Whirlpool—Neko-nin exHeart SPIN!. Now, roughly a month after, it is available via Denpasoft and Steam for $13.49.

Despite being a new entry to the Neko-Nin exHeart main series, the game is actually a side story of Neko-nin exHeart 3 with new heroines and a new story (as well as heroines from Neko-nin exHeart 3 as side heroines).
Staff
The main artist was Takano Yuki, most famous for her work on the other Neko-Nin titles and the Slobbish Dragon Princess, as well as the Da Capo series. The scenario was written by Oumiya Yuu, most known for working on Slobbish Dragon Princess, Animal Trail ☆ Girlish Square, and PRIMAL HEARTS.
The Story
Our hero, Makibishi Kikumaru, has spent his mostly plain days in the company of his tanuki-faced family members (younger sister and grandfather), but his grandfather’s sudden death causes a major shift in his daily life. A cat-earred woman in battle dress storms in on the funeral vigil and lets loose with a machine gun. His younger sister turns into a tanuki-earred ninja.
What the heck is going on? The one that comes to our hero’s rescue is a mysterious and beautiful cat-earred woman.
“My name is Touka. I am here to protect you, Lord Makibishi, no… Lord Saiga Kikumaru.”
These are the words that Touka speaks to a bewildered Kikumaru.
1) There are people that exist in this country known as “demi-humans”, as well as people of other origins, unbeknownst to the rest of the population
2) These beings served as ninja during the Sengoku period, and still exist here and there across Japan today
3) You were born into the Saiga family, who act as intermediaries between this “underworld” and mainstream society.
4) And so you are already involved in the struggle. If you don’t get serious about it, you’ll end up dead. (This part is vital.)
…So it seems.
Things seem to be a little on the serious (?) side this time, as the curtains rise again on a new NEKO-NIN chapter.

Meet the Ninjas
Kikumaru Makibishi
Our story’s main character.
He and his younger sister attend the same university, only one station away from their home. Though he was a gifted child who never struggled when it came to studying or sports, he has just about managed to live a normal life up to now. In reality, as the fifth child of the Saika clan – a powerful family that controls the hidden side of Japan – Kikumaru is a fated child with exceptionally rare blood. However, he has been raised without knowing this information about himself…
With the death of his guardian, Kenzou, Kikumaru will have to face his destiny, but as for what that means, he can only respond with a “huh?”
Nanako Makibishi
VA: Yanagi Hitomi
Kikumaru’s younger sister.
…Or so it has been decided.
She is a demi-human of the tanuki species, and a ninja of the Kishuu Saika school. He grandfather is the famous inventor Kenzou Makishibi. She has served Kikumaru for as long as she can remember, having been entrusted with this duty by her grandfather’s master, Magoichi. But duty has nothing to do with it, as her love for Kikumaru is pure. Because she declares it openly, no one, including Kikumaru himself, is in any doubt about her brother complex.
She learned to craft ninja tools under the tutelage of her grandfather, Kenzou. As for her proficiency, she shows “great promise” (her words) for the future. In battle, her weapons of choice are the bombs she makes herself. She’s not too good at hand-to-hand combat, and pretty much never uses the ninja art of ninpou. She eats a lot, sleeps a lot, and lives a low-stress life, which is perhaps why her bosom is so huge. She can be a little dark at times, and she’s got that hardcore otaku vibe. You could say she is, in many ways, a tanuki with some bad karma following her around…
Chika Nekoe
VA: Shinonome Ria
A nekoninja who serves the elder son and most powerful member of the Saika clan – Ootora Saika. She was once a part of a ninja clan called the “Satomi Eight”, but fled for various reasons. You might call her the type of girl who wants to get the most out from the least effort. You might call also her a mesugaki…
She has a side to her that sees everyone but her as fools.
The type of girl say things like, “The tastiest strawberry can be found sitting atop someone else’s prized shortcake.” She awaits someone to teach her what love is. However, under the direct command of Ootora Saika, her position is somewhat stressful due to the strict discpline required, and her being the only young girl surround by old men. Her skill as a ninja does not stand out, so, being aware of this, she often relies on firearms in comabat. That said, she has a secret technique, but she says it’s a “maiden’s secret.”
No doubt, she needs someone to teach her the ways of the world.
Touka
VA: Haruno Iroha
A cat-eared ninja who appeared before Kikumaru one day.
Like most catgirls, she came from Kazema, where she was raised in a rural village. However, she fled the village long ago, and now introduces herself as a “shinobi without a master”. Of course, that was before she met Kikumaru… At present, she takes on the role of an older sister to Kikumaru, to whom she is deeply loyal. Her main focus is watching over Kikumaru from the shodows. (Though she doesn’t normally interfere directly.)
She has a relaxed personality with an ever-present smile.
Almost nothing fazes her. She is about the same age as Kikumaru and the others (one year older according to her). There’s something different about her, like she sees through to the essence of everything. There may be many mysteries surrounding her, but her love for Kikumaru is true and pure. Whenever he has any problems, she’s there to comfort him with a hug.
