There’s a quick interview of Fujisan the producer of MoeNovel up at Project Saya which is a VN news site for French people.
^ They’re a subsidiary of Pulltop/WillPlus just as we thought.
Some of the answers are a bit vague, I know that they have better insights than this. Saya asked why did you wait until now, why not earlier. Fujisan said “timing was the problem”. Could be referring to waiting for Rapelay-dust to settle.
Kono Oozora won 3rd place in Getchu bishoujo game awards: [see post] and they won the gold medal (first place) in the 2012 Moe Game Award: [moe-gameaward.com/]
And here is the most pressing question:
That’s why I do think that the game will find an audience outside of the core fanbase. They’re also going all out on this, they purchased a background page Ad on Playasia.com (albeit it looks really lackluster. just a plane.).
Fujisan also goes on to say that regardless of whether it’s successful, they will continue the effort. Quote, “First of all, raising the awareness of visual novels is our first task,”

I think this is a worthwhile effort to support.
Please consider buying to help with localization costs.
You can buy a physical copy at Playasia.com for USD$35
Or digital copy for $5 less. The game is out now!
Cool Beau-chi da!
I have ordered this great game just one hour ago.
So where is da torrent at?
I still don’t think taking a fictional work and trying to make it fit into another market by cutting it and replacing things is the right thing to do. Actually worse than no translation at all.
Also they recorded new voices in Japanese for some parts even though you’re not supposed to understand them? I think this pretty much shows how absurd this whole thing is.
nar not going to post this one. not with those sharks at mangagamer breathing down my neck.
probably wont post world end economica either for the same reason.
I’m disappointed that you seem to support their heavy-censoship approach just for the sake of “wider audience”. Now everybody should realize that popularity of Eroge in the west is actually a bad thing. It encourages ignorant Japanese businessmen to hapily butcher their own products to sell some units to Walmart, it encourages clueless beginners to buy inferior crap-versions with the core content removed and it is a general attack against a great art-form.
With this choice I prefer Visual Novels to stay freaky underground-Otaku-stuff instead of soulless disfigured westernized versions.
So to all the fans: please don’t buy this shit if you really love VN and Eroge.
I support them. It’s basically an all age release, so why you need to be so fussy when it’s normal for any other all age releases? I was scared that the censorship will break the game flow, but now that we know that they put an effort to edit the script and put new voice lines to it so I think the hate is not justified anymore right now.
Crap versions? I never saw any story-oriented VN being ruined by didn’t have any H-scenes. It’s actually the opposite, most of them just worsen the experience. Nukige can stay and it WILL stay, it’s not like they will decide to bring an all age adaptation of Nukige to the west, they are not that stupid.
I also see no reason for them to widen the market horizon. You could stay ignorant, but they are business persons, not some indie developers. They CAN’T stay ignorant since they need money. And know what? The industry is declining. VN industry is flooded with repetitive eroge and they can only rely at really small audience that still bought anything that they throw to them, as long as it still have ero. And by looking at recent sales you know that it’s not a business method that could last forever.
And now, see at some companies that try to venture to the all age only release. We all now that Rewrite sales is disappointing for KEY flagship title, and Minori with Supipara? I’m glad that they weren’t bankrupt now. Right now I think only few Japanese companies that could survive with all age VN strategy, and most of them rely on a very different market (such as Nitro+, and they even still release most of their smaller VN with H contents)
So, yes. They need more audiences. You can stay at underground while I could play and talk about VN in open, and I hope all age VN will have a wider market (And you can still have your freaky underground-Otaku-stuffs, it’s not like Japan are only having a few of them in the market. Enjoy your Softhouse-seal titles :D)
So to all the fans: please buy this release if you really love VN.
Actually having a corrupted script is worse than just censorship. If the only thing they had one had been cutting out things you would have still been able to get the original version and watch the scenes that were cut out from that version. But this way you probably won’t even be able to get the context of those scenes because the plot was changed in the version you were reading.
One should think about if it’s really worth supporting this localisation while this also means supporting censorship.
zeroyuki92
>> I don’t respect this work at all, if there’s sexual content and such in the original release that means that there’s a reason for it to be in the game, I do really think that this VN loose a part of it if they remove the sexual content.
The game is addressed to an adult public and thus it isn’t the same game anymore.
In summary, a crappy release.
Oh yeah and, if it’s the only way to make the VNs become profitable in europe I’d rather not see any VN in europe.
> Moenovel cut the H-content without any editing at all
Boo they cut the content, the game now don’t feel natural at all due to obvious missing scene and it’s sucks
> Moenovel edit the script and add voices so it could be natural
Boo they cut the content and put the new one. Now I won’t even be able to spot the edited content since it has become natural
I should have known that no matter what they are doing, the fuss won’t went down since the fuss is simply about NO PORN = NO DEAL. Enjoy the slow declining of VN industry, friends.
“Enjoy the slow declining of VN industry” … What a joke.
I don’t get it at all, there’re plenty of VNs without any sexual of content and by the way plenty of really great VNs, why did they not pick one of those ?
If you pick a VN with sexual content then you release it with sexual content, they could have translated plenty of other great VNs then why did they pick one with sexual content if it’s for removing it ? This is nonsense.
When I played Monster Girl Quest, I only played it for fun at first. I got hooked by the amazing storyline and so the nudity or the monster bits didn’t bother me. The sex was even good at times but that is just part of the story because it fits into the story itself. The point I’m trying to make is that it is an amazing game that discusses deep issues about war and justice and choices but just looking at it, all you would see is another perv game. Why are adults so superficial? They always say that sex is nothing big, but they make such a big deal about it when they see it? Trying to force a normal American person to accept a good VN is like trying to tell them soccer is football because you play with your foot, in other words, useless. So why try to appeal to the wider audience? Those who like anime will like anime and those who don’t won’t. Otakus are not made through VNs, otakus are born to play VNs.
Got my copy preordered and really excited for it! I was okay with the censorship because erotic content tends to make games worse, not better, but adding new scenes and recording new voices goes far beyond my expectations. At the very least, this does not seem to be an inferi
– or crap version of the game. Considering how companies do all ages releases already of eroge for console releases and pack them with extra content and voices, I don’t see how we would get inferior copies if they start to get popular in the west because of this game. On the contrary, we’ll get more games on actual consoles rather than just PC. Please support this game if you actually love VN’s!
Deleted/Edited Content:
– removed sexual humor
– removed 17 sex scenes (including over half the CG)
– removed images of kissing with lips touching
– added towels to characters in the bath
Only h-scenes, huh? Let’s just add stupid jokes for little kids!
Yes, because the millions of variations in eyes open/closed, blushing/not blushing, clothes/no clothes, and covered in white stuff/not that tend to come with H scenes should definitely count as CGs that are “missing”
And there isn’t a single bit of sexual humor in the trial. Oh, not at all. No ducks running around with panties here!
And there totally was a kissing scene with lips touching that had absolutely no connection with an H-scene in the original game!
And adding towels is such a HORRIBLE edit – those newly drawn and colored towels sure look like a hack job!
And the fact that they went back and rewrote chunks of the story (even recording new voices) to make it work as an all-ages version shouldn’t count at all as a valiant effort to make this the optimum all-ages experience. What a bunch of jerks just ripping stuff out and slapping it together!
*rolls eyes*
Let me guess, you think that H scenes in the average moege actually add to the story, too.
Imagine you buying a car with 3 wheels.
one thing is to release a REAL,edited by the creators themselves in japan all ages version (like the phantom of inferno old release) of a game, where they take care to fill the blanks left by the lack of sex so it doesn’t affect the flow of the story and you don’t feel like having being cheated, replacing the scene with other exclusive staff.
another thing is to take a game with adult content and take things out youyrself,I had played games like this and YOU NOTICE there is something missing.
cross may had being hard but I agree with him,I am not buying anoymore games that had being chop.
I am planning to play the game with atlas. Eroge are are destined to be with ero stuff …..duh! removing it greatly lowers the quality. Sum galges like supipara or lost cristmas were gud. But this game aint cut for it without the h scenes(at least on my opinion)
@zeroyuki92 Um, Rewrite sold over 100k copies, I know that for sure. (actually I think it was closer to 150k)
You probably read that one speculative blog post almost proudly proclaiming a loss for Key…off of a magazine’s system that just awards “points” to VNs off of speculation and has nothing to do with actual sales. What that post said was wiped away a few weeks later when Key released a leaflet or something that mentioned that Rewrite sold 100k+.
Even the 24k mentioned there is actually a really good number for the average VN studio – Saga Planets went crazy after selling over 20k copies of Hatsuyuki Sakura.
Anyway, really big VN studios with an established fan base (like Key or Circus) have little to no trouble selling an all-ages game. Not sure what happened with minori, but I’m not sure that the fact that Supipara was all-ages was the only reason it failed…maybe the fact that it was advertised as a multi-part series from the getgo killed interest?
Question is… did KEY originally made REWRITE into an 18+ game?
The answer to that will be obvious to you and it’s a no brainer.
For convenience sake the company isn’t KEY so don’t compare it moenovel.
I refuse to support censorship. I would’ve happily purchased it if they hadn’t censored it.
Fuck the haters, I can get the point of removing H content.
I’ve played eroge before and I have never played one where the H content has actually made any difference to the plot. If you’ve played KonoSora in Japanese and can confirm that the H content has bearing on the plot, feel free to say so.
Otherwise, I am getting this for the story. I play non-ero VNs all the time, and they still remain masterpieces.
In fact, I think some of you people neglect the fact that VN companies release all-ages versions of their works on PSP and mobile devices, and they still sell. So if the Japanese populace doesn’t mind it when they do this, why do you guys have such big sticks up your asses?
Can someone please upload a torrent for this game?
pay lol
People are angry about this precisely BECAUSE it’s not a console port. For instance, Sony doesn’t allow ero content on their consoles, and that’s a well-known fact. That’s why when eroge are ported to the PSP, PSVita, etc, nobody minds the H content being cut.
Personally I have very mixed feelings about this. While I do commend their effort to bring visual novels to the west, KonoSora isn’t a good title to start with. If they really wanted to appeal to a wider audience with something all-ages, they should have just picked something that was originally all-ages to begin with or has an all-ages console port and maybe port it back to PC.
Looking at the comments… Mfw this is what you guys really believe :V
Censorship ruins the game? When have H-scenes ever improved a story? They just mess with the integrity of the plot. This isn’t a nukige, it’s clearly a story driven game. And they’re even going to the effort of editing the story to make sure the changes flow with the rest of the game.
You guys don’t care about the story, nor do you have any interest in improving the state of the VN industry. You’re just a bunch of elitist perverts trying to justify your lust. Go enjoy your fap fuel among all the already released nukige, I’m going to support this work. I strongly believe in what they’re doing and I can’t comprehend why any sane person would think ill of them.
The more I read the less I understand, I never denied that some games without sexual content where masterpiece, in fact I agree with you and someone who don’t is a fool.
But that’s not the point here, they could have released plenty of great VNs without sexual content, no problem here.
However, they pick a VN with sexual content, translate it and finally remove sexual content.
This is stupid, because the sexual content is useful in is own way, it shows an evolution or a shift in the relationship between two people, if you remove it, the player cannot understand their relationship well and will be confused.
So saying that we are “just a bunch of elitist perverts trying to justify your lust” is not quite correct.
Oh please. There’s plenty of ways to demonstrate the development of a relationship that don’t involve using H-scenes. Are you criticizing all of the great works of film and literature that manage to demonstrate this without resorting to pornographic content?
Well~ i think who want to see those H-scene just have to use trans tool and read it __ __”.
About me, i’ll read two of them, one is original, one is edition they release.
Would’ve bought it, but I already finished playing the original Japanese version and the censorship in the translated one is a big turn off to me.. That being said, I don’t have anything against those who wants to purchase it though.
I won’t have any problem if this is a console version since it would be acceptable by standards but knowing that this is an ALL-AGE version for the *PC* it’s just that hard to accept it. If they do want success the only way to go is console. Now don’t get me wrong they can always go to SONY and self-publish their game and I will gladly accept an ALL AGE CONSOLE VERSION.
But for me it’s either I’ll wait for a ERO PATCH or just skip this *THING*.
i will buy this game only when they release a complete version or a patch to remove everything that has been censored (if they seriously had to change the whole novel to make it consistent, this means that the H scenes were an integral part of the game), if “random” is correct they removed sexual humor too… i don’t and i wont support any kind of censorship/butchering, i read VNs for the plot too, and i usually almost skip the H scenes, but i wont play something censored with a bunch of dialogs removed due to consistency issues…
it shouldn’t really be difficult for them to release a patch or the original version of the game in a separate release, but still they wont for unknown reasons (i asked them on twitter, they don’t plan on doing ANYTHING for the real fans)
I cannot buy this vn, because is censored. It’s simple.
….waiting for a patch
i suggest that everyone who wont buy the game until they release something without the censorship as close to the original game as possible, should send a tweet to them to let them know “https://twitter.com/Moenovel”, 9/10 of my friends wont buy a censored game, its a shame because moenovel doesn’t realize that is loosing at least 25%, maybe 50% of the ppl who already know and love VNs…while another 50% of the ones that will buy the vn, will buy it even if they don’t like the censorship, just to help them “conquer” the west, but think about it, if this works, more software houses will try to do the same…maybe moenovel is censoring without ruining the game, but what makes you sure that the others will do the same without crippling the game? i say we should speak now before is too late, make them hear your voice so that they know that they are loosing a big and influential piece of the market!
I hope this fails and they lose a lot of money, so nobody ever tries this BS again. If you can’t release the full thing, don’t release at all.
lol they changed the word boobs to big eyes
the voice said Oppai = boobs and the words said big eyes. how can you control men with big eyes
bad translation
Wow…..anyone wants an ERO-PATCH? What if someone made one (but with MACHINE-TRANSLATED H-scenes)?
Does anyone know if there’s an english fan made translation?
I’m thinking about buying it just to support the game, and play an fan made translation to have all the original content.
Actually, this censorship prevented me for buying it on pre-order.
