The infamous CLOCKUP just released their latest title Ouju no Shima in Japan. The digital edition is available through DMM. If you prefer physical releases, Melonbooks has got you covered (with Japanese language support only.)
The game consists of two arcs, each with their own protagonist.
The scenario is written by Kurashiki Tatsuya (Maggot Baits, DEAD DAYS) and the character design is done by none other than Hamashima Shigeo (euphoria, Fraternite, Maggot Baits, Shinsou Noise, Mojika: Truth Rears Its Ugly Head), one artist you may recognize if you follow CLOCKUP’s works.
The Story
In 2019, as Japan transitioned from the Heisei era to Reiwa, a hidden chapter unfolded on Sarubotoke, a secluded island in the Seto Inland Sea. This island has long thrived as a secret haven for prostitution, overseen since the Showa era by the powerful Futatsuguri family.
Meanwhile, four strange individuals have emerged from the shadows of society, drawn to the island for mysterious reasons.
Embedded within both the island’s ruling family and these newcomers are sorcerers who practice an undetectable form of murder: the art of killing with curses.
As dark ambitions and human plots weave together on this island of vice, an even darker force broods beneath the surface—a sinister curse that has haunted Sarubotoke Island for nearly seven decades, a legacy of the island’s war-ridden past.
The Cast
Fuminari Shuuzou
I’m beat, Togetsu. Way I see it, you ain’t gonna put my suspicions to rest, so that makes you an enemy.
The protagonist of the Fuminari Arc.
Living under the Futatsuguri family’s roof, Shuuzou’s a sorcerer whose trade is curse-induced murder. Known for his cynical nature, this middle-aged man prefers to speak and act in a deliberately villainous manner.
Shuuzou still clings to the memory of his mentor, Enju, who passed away during his youth, even after all these years.
Togetsu Kan (VA: Inari Uzuki)
Geez… So, everyone but you’s an enemy, huh? Classic.
The protagonist of the Togetsu Arc.
A nomadic sorcerer hired by the Arai group. He earns his living by using curses for assassination. Sporting a laid-back vibe that screams disinterest, this middle-aged man favors a no-nonsense, detached approach.
Though Kan appears to have some history with the Futatsuguri family, he doesn’t seem keen on discussing the details.
Futatsuguri Tamayo (VA: Fujino Murasaki)
I haven’t changed… I’ve just finally faced the reality.
The main heroine of the Fuminari arc.
Tamayo is set to take over her family’s accursed fortune on Sarubotoke Island.
Wise and compassionate, the heiress holds down the fort for her ailing father. Yet, she can’t hide her disdain for the curses and sinister ties that bind her family.
Higa Shinobu (VA: Aoi Tokio)
This ‘ogre’ inked on my back? It’s got a life of its own; I’m tellin’ ya.
The main heroine of the Togetsu arc.
This wandering assassin is on the Arai group’s payroll for a top-secret gig, and she’s setting sail for Sarubotoke Island. Don’t let Shinobu’s rough-and-tumble exterior fool you, though – beneath that tough shell lies a heart of gold. As for the hellish ogre tattoo sprawled across her back? That’s a tale for another time.
Iguchi Himena (VA: Imaya Minami)
Hey, feel like getting a little cozy with Hime?
The queen bee at Oujo, the ‘King’s Castle,’ the premier brothel in Sarubotoke Island’s red-light district.
Attracted by tales of its unparalleled earnings, Himena left the hustle of Tokyo for the allure of Sarubotoke Island. Sporting the striking, Shiro-Gyaru fashion, she commands attention with her bold style and infectious smile. Her dazzling looks and captivating presence keep her admirers returning, ensuring her spot at the top.
Kano (VA: Watame Tabeko)
Hey, Uncle. Mind giving me a head pat?
Kano is one of the four individuals who made their way to Sarubotoke Island on a mission.
Don’t let her tender age fool you – this little lady’s got a wild side and a grown-up attitude, especially when it comes to matters of a carnal nature. She’s currently under the wing of Arai Zenjirou, her “Uncle” (Occhan) as she adoringly calls him.
