Capcom’s highly acclaimed Ace Attorney series got its start back in 2001 with the release of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for the Game Boy Advance. It received generally favorable reviews, spawned two sequels, and was ported to many platforms, including iOS, the Nintendo DS, the Wii, Xbox and PlayStation systems. In 2013, it received a multi-platform release: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney HD Trilogy. While the series isn’t always considered a part of the visual novel genre (and is instead regarded as a Japanese adventure game) it’s still popular with VN fans.
In 2007, the fourth Ace Attorney title was released for the Nintendo DS. In a departure from the earlier games, it starred a new character, Apollo Justice. New gameplay elements not seen in the original Ace Attorney trilogy were also a feature. The Apollo Justice game wasn’t received quite as well as its predecessors, but it still garnered commendable reviews.
On June 12th, 2023, Capcom announced another HD trilogy—Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney and its two sequels, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice.
The Apollo Justice trilogy is scheduled to release in early 2024 on PC (Steam and Windows Store), Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, with Japanese, English, French, German, Korean, and Chinese language options.
